The Scalpel® was the code name of our first prototype putter. It now is the name of one of our fine line of putters. The prototype was crude in construction and finish, but tested very well so we moved forward with the design. The founder's background in surgery was the inspiration for the subsequent naming of our other putters.

Technical Features: The putter is made of 303 surgical stainless steel. The face is rolled with a 0.5 inch radius. The body weighs 306 grams. The multiple weights are 10 and 20 grams. A variety of weight placement and weighting are possible. There are 6 screws (4 grams total) and one 3/32" hex wrench. The total weight with all weights in place is 370 grams. The putter comes with the weights, screws and wrench in red Velour pouch.

Design: The geometry is a horizontal blade type. There is a scalpel design machined in relief on the heel and toe. The Scalpel® has multiple adjustable underside weighting. The golfer should look at our test results and then vary the weighting to get the best individual results on the green. There is a central alignment groove. There is identification engraving on the sole and weights. The head is near center shafted at 19 degrees.

Finishing: They are polished surgical stainless steel with mat finish. The Scalpel® outlines have non-glare finish. The center sight line is painted red. The logos are on the underside and have red paint fill. Personalized engraving option is available on the weights by special request. The engraving can be your company or club name.

Independent Testing: The Scalpel® was tested with a variety of weight configurations, seven in all. The total weight was varied between 306 grams and 370 grams. The weights were placed fore and aft. They were placed in the middle. The double suspension weight of 20 grams was placed back and middle.

It tested best of these options when all the weights were in place on both sides. (see #5 below)

# Weighting Position Weight
(grams)
SKID
(inches)
PEI
(1.0)
1 Double thick weight back position 348 14-15 .85-.88
2 Double thick back, thins middle 368 16 .82
3 One thin weight back/each side 327 17 .84
4 Double thin back each side 348 16 .86
5 Double thin and one thin fills all 370 15 .87
6 No weights 306 18 .85
7 Double thick at center 347 17 .82

When tested by a human doing the putting, the skid was 6 to 11 inches. The True Roll Speed was 3.1 to 3.6. The PEI was .93 to 1.0 with average of .95. These results were encouraging.
